Marion Winter

Artist and ICMA-Founder

Born in Germany in 1947 I spent about 4 decades of my life there before I came in 1988 to Australia‘s beautiful Gold Coast in Queensland – where I still live today.

When I started to paint miniatures it was to decorate the walls of dolls houses that I built for collectors. I signed in for lessons and entered my first exhibition about 4 months later, where I received a “Highly Commended“. I felt encouraged to carry on with painting and desired to determine whether I inherited some talent from my Grandfather, an architect and artist, who had died long before I was born.

Meanwhile I had joined the “Australian Society of Miniature Art, Qld. Inc.“ (ASMA QLD). This organisation arranged two exhibitions per year, one for members only and an “International Exhibition“ at the Gold Coast City Arts Centre.

In 2000 I entered my first exhibition with the “World Federation of Miniature Art“ in Hobart, Tasmania, where I received invitations to exhibit in the UK and USA as well.

Soon I entered the biggest and best shows overseas:

MASF – Miniature Art Society of Florida
MPSGS – Miniature Painters, Sculptors and Gravers Society of Washington DC
CPA – Cider Painters of America
RMS – Royal Society of Miniature Painters, Sculptors and Gravers in London, GB
HS -The Hilliard Society in Wells, GB

I also served ASMA QLD as Secretary, President and especially as Exhibition Manager. Supportet by the Gold Coast City Council and Arts Queensland I organized a very successful touring exhibition of 200 Australian miniatures, including works of First Nation Artists, through Germany in 2001.

Up until a few years ago I enjoyed mostly to paint landscapes in a traditional, realistic way with a romantic touch, also flowers and still lives. It was an interesting challenge to create surreal paintings, a direction still rarely seen in miniatures. I find such scenes ideal to express my critical, but sometimes also humorous thoughts.

I am now a member of the most important Miniature Art Societies in the United Kingdom, the United States of America and Australia. I also enjoy to enter miniature art exhibitions, staged by regional or private galleries.

I am very proud to have received the “Signature Membership“ of the MAA “The Miniature Artists of America“- as only the second artist in Australia.
